Conditions such as cataracts or presbyopia are a natural part of aging

Fortunately, treatments like cataract surgery exist to address these issues effectively. This surgical procedure involves removing the cloudy lens in the eye and replacing it with a clear, artificial intraocular lens (IOL), enabling clearer vision.

Various IOL options are available based on individual factors such as current vision, eye health, personality, and lifestyle. These IOLs are designed to enhance specific aspects of vision, categorised as Distance vision, Intermediate vision, and Near vision.

Different types of IOL available

Not every IOL is suitable for everyone, so your eye surgeon will recommend the best option for you.
The table below shows the expected post-surgery vision offered by different types of premium IOLs.

Public hospitals generally offer standard monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs), which provide clear vision at a single distance and usually require glasses for other distances. Premium lenses with additional features, such as astigmatism correction or multiple focal points (as shown in the chart above), are typically not available in public hospitals and may involve extra costs.
